Siri AI in Germany: what works on iPhone, iPad, Mac and Vision Pro

What Siri AI is and why it is missing here

According to Apple, Siri AI is a completely rebuilt version of Siri. It is meant to answer almost any question, understand what is on the screen, search messages, mail and calendar for personal information and get things done in apps. It also comes with its own Siri app that keeps your conversations. Apple has been rolling out Siri AI as a beta since 14 September 2026, at launch only in English and with a waitlist.

In the EU, Siri AI is missing on iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch. Apple says the European Commission did not accept any of its proposals for launching Siri AI under the Digital Markets Act. In Apple's account, it would otherwise have to give third-party AI assistants far-reaching access to private data and other apps. Apple gives no timeline for the EU.

The European Commission sees it differently. According to MacRumors, a spokesperson said the decision is Apple's alone; the company asked for an exemption from its obligations instead of presenting a compliant solution.

What each device can do

iPhone: no Siri AI in the EU. Outside the EU it needs an iPhone 15 Pro or 15 Pro Max, an iPhone 16 or later, or the iPhone Air. There is one more exception: according to Apple, Siri AI currently does not work with an Apple Account whose region is mainland China.

iPad: no Siri AI in the EU. This also covers the iPad mini with A17 Pro and all iPads with an M1 chip or later.

Apple Watch: no Siri AI in the EU, because the watch needs a paired iPhone with Siri AI.

Mac: with macOS 27, Siri AI also works with an EU Apple Account, on Macs with M1 or later and the MacBook Neo. Device and Siri language must be set to English.

Apple Vision Pro: works with visionOS 27, again only with English as device and Siri language.

On every device Siri AI is a beta. According to Apple, you join a waitlist after switching it on.

Language and cost

At launch, Siri AI only understands English. Apple has announced French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish for October 2026. Apple has not named a date for German so far, as WinFuture also notes. So if you want to use Siri AI on a Mac, you have to switch the Mac to English.

Apple does not currently charge for Siri AI. However, Apple says daily usage limits apply to features that run on its servers, including Siri AI. Apple says expanded access will be available for a fee in the future. How much that will cost is not known.

What you can use on an iPhone in Germany today

According to Apple, Siri AI is a beta you first have to switch on in Settings. Without it, you keep the existing Siri. According to Apple, the other Apple Intelligence features are also available in the EU with iOS 27, including in German. They include, for example, the writing tools, summaries of notifications and mail, Live Translation, new photo editing tools, Image Playground and intelligent features in Safari. Some features, such as suggestions in Mail, are English only.

Apple's help page also lists the ChatGPT extension, which works in regions where ChatGPT is offered. You can also install standalone AI apps from the App Store. Google's Gemini app, for instance, is available in Germany and in German according to Google. These apps cannot reach as deeply into the iPhone as Siri AI, though.

What might happen next

In early October 2026, heise reported, citing Bloomberg, that talks between Apple and the European Commission are not making progress. In the best case, Siri AI could reach iPhones in the EU in spring 2027. That is a media report, not a promise from Apple.

For comparison: with the first version of Apple Intelligence it took about five months, according to heise, until it was available in Germany. Whether that repeats depends on Apple and the EU finding a solution.
