Microsoft Copilot in Germany: what works in Windows and Edge
The Copilot app for Windows 10 and 11 and Copilot in the Edge browser work in Germany, including in German and by voice (as of October 2026). Copilot Vision, which can see your screen, is available here too; for more usage you need a Microsoft 365 plan from 99 euros a year. Recall only runs on Copilot+ PCs. Click to Do is available there too, and for businesses also as a preview on certain Windows 365 Cloud PCs; many of its actions are missing in the EU. The Browse with Copilot browser agent is only available in the US.

Copilot on your Windows PC
Copilot is Microsoft's AI assistant. On a Windows PC it comes as its own app: according to Microsoft, it is already installed on new Windows 11 PCs and pinned to the taskbar or Start menu; otherwise you download it from the Microsoft Store. According to Microsoft, the app runs on Windows 10 and Windows 11. You sign in with your personal Microsoft account or a work account.
You can type to Copilot or talk to it. Saying „Hey, Copilot“ calls it up hands-free if you want. According to Microsoft, German is one of the supported languages, including for voice conversations. Microsoft says Copilot is available in more than 170 markets; exceptions include China and embargoed countries, but not Germany.
Copilot Vision: Copilot sees your screen
With Copilot Vision you share a browser window or an app with Copilot. It sees what you see, answers questions about it or guides you through a task step by step, such as a setting in a program. In the Copilot phone app you can share the camera instead.
According to Microsoft's Windows page, Copilot Vision is available through the Copilot app in more than 170 markets, with usage limits that vary. On the conditions, though, Microsoft's pages contradict each other: one help page names a Microsoft 365 Single, Family or Premium subscription as a requirement. The German Microsoft Store, on the other hand, only promises more usage than in the free version for these plans. So try whether Vision starts for free on your PC.
Copilot+ PC: Recall and Click to Do
Some features are only available on so-called Copilot+ PCs. These are newer Windows computers with a special AI chip (NPU) that manages at least 40 trillion operations per second (40 TOPS), with at least 16 GB of memory and 256 GB of storage.
According to Microsoft, Recall is still a preview. It regularly takes snapshots of your screen so you can later search for, say, a web page or document you have seen before. According to Microsoft, saving snapshots is off by default and you have to switch it on yourself. To do so you need at least 50 GB of free storage. The snapshots stay on the device, are encrypted and are protected with Windows Hello, meaning face or fingerprint. Recall is optimised for German, among other languages. In the European Economic Area you can also export your Recall snapshots.
You start Click to Do with the Windows key and a mouse click or with Windows key and Q. You select text or an image on the screen and get matching actions. In the EU, however, a lot is missing according to Microsoft: Ask Copilot, visual search with Bing, advanced image features such as blurring the background, the Teams actions, Reading Coach, Immersive Reader and drafting with Copilot in Word are not available here. Microsoft also requires English as the default language for the smarter text actions such as summarising or rewriting.
There is one exception for businesses: according to Microsoft, Click to Do and improved Windows search also run as a preview (Frontier preview) on certain Windows 365 Enterprise Cloud PCs, including in the Germany West Central data centre region. This needs a sufficiently large Cloud PC, a current Windows version and activation by the IT department. Recall is not included.
Other Copilot+ features Microsoft names include improved Windows search, Cocreator in Paint and Restyle in the Photos app; which of these are available depends on device and market, according to Microsoft.
Copilot in the Edge browser
Copilot is built into Microsoft's Edge browser. Since May 2026, according to Microsoft, it can compare information across several open tabs for everyone, take earlier chats and your history into account and help by voice and Vision, on the computer and for the first time in the Edge phone app.
The experimental Copilot Mode, which Microsoft launched in July 2025, has since been retired; its features now sit directly in Edge. Two new features are not available in Germany: Journeys, which organises your browsing sessions by topic, only runs on the computer in English-language markets. And Browse with Copilot, where Copilot completes tasks in the browser on its own, is only for Microsoft 365 Premium subscribers in the US.
What it costs
Copilot itself can be used with a free Microsoft account, but with a limited allowance. More usage and Copilot in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook come with Microsoft 365. In the German Microsoft Store the plans cost: Microsoft 365 Single 10 euros a month or 99 euros a year, Microsoft 365 Family 13 euros a month or 129 euros a year, Microsoft 365 Premium 22 euros a month or 219 euros a year.
With Family, up to six people can use the apps, but only the person who took out the subscription gets the AI features. According to Microsoft, Premium offers higher usage limits than Single and Family plus the research agents Researcher and Analyst. Microsoft now names the Microsoft 365 Pro plan as the one with the highest limits, for example for voice and Vision; on 10 October 2026, however, it was not listed with a price in the German Microsoft Store. The Cowork task agent is only a preview and only available in the US and Canada, according to Microsoft, so a Premium plan does not unlock it in Germany. For work accounts in companies, the Ask Microsoft Copilot action requires a Microsoft 365 licence.
